Dr Huisamen earned his medical degree from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa in 1991. He immigrated to Canada in 1995, obtaining certification in family medicine (CCFP) in 2000 and specialty certification in emergency medicine (EM) in 2001. Dr Huisamen has practiced emergency and critical care medicine in Regina and the Comox Valley for the last 20-plus years, and has served as Chief of Emergency Medicine twice in his career.
He has expanded his education and training in the field of skin disorders through the Australian Institute of Dermatology and Queen Mary University of London, UK, obtaining his postgraduate diploma in dermatology with distinction. He has continued to expand his professional knowledge and skills through courses in dermoscopy and skin cancer. Dr Huisamen will continue to offer general practice consultant services in skin disorders to clients in both Qualicum Beach and Courtenay.
